报告摘要(Abstract):
A discussion focused on the value of convergent coupling in complex molecule synthesis and medicinal chemistry will set the stage for understanding our interest in developing metallacycle-mediated cross-coupling as a general strategy to accomplish a variety of complex convergent C–C bond-forming reactions. This introduction transitions from a broad/generalized perspective to focus on a subset of annulative coupling reactions that have been of great interest to our research program. Specifically, attention will be directed toward articulating how steroidal systems persist as an enduring problem in stereoselective synthesis and how we have created a chemistry platform to access novel areas of chemical space within this broad class of pharmaceutically privileged architectures. A variety of new stereoselective transformations will be presented that have emerged from our interests in this area, a total synthesis of a natural product will be summarized, and a brief glimpse of how we are leveraging our in-house technology to drive the discovery of medicinally relevant compositions of matter will conclude the presentation.
报告人简介(Brief introduction):
Glenn Micalizio (BS: Ramapo College; PhD: University of Michigan with Professor William R. Roush; Helen Hay Whitney; Postdoctoral Fellow: Harvard University with Professor Stuart L. Schreiber) served on the faculty at Yale University, the Scripps Research Institute, and Dartmouth College before assuming his current position at the University of California, Irvine as the Susan and Henry Samueli Chair of Integrative Health and the Director of the Robert A. Mah Molecular Innovation Center. His research lies at the heart of synthetic organic chemistry, with an emphasis on the invention of new stereoselective reactions and synthesis strategies capable of serving as enabling technology for the discovery of natural product-inspired molecules of biomedical relevance. His research has resulted in the establishment of over 50 new reactions of value in complex molecule synthesis and their application to the synthesis of hundreds of natural product and natural product-inspired molecules. His accomplishments have been recognized by numerous awards including the Beckman Young Investigator Award, the American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award, the Lilly Grantee Award, the Boehringer Ingelheim New Investigator Award, the Sanofi-Aventis Visions in Chemistry Award, and most recently, a PIFI Distinguished Scientist Fellowship, among others. He serves as a consultant to several biotech companies, serves as an expert witness for pharmaceutical patent litigation, and co-founded a biotech startup company supported by Arch Venture Partners.
